If only we could play Houston every week. Samardzija looked dominant for an 8-10 pitcher, Rizzo slapped the shit out of Armando Gallaraga, and Starlin Castro scored a run while sending fans home with a bobblehead representation of himself. All in all, a lot better outing than the three straight soul-crushing defeats that comprised Friday through Sunday against the Reds.
After a weekend of personally watching Brett JacKson strike out and Josh Vitters pop out, it's enjoyable to see a comfortable win. Funny thing is that only two Cubs (Barney and Rizzo) had a multi-hit game, which is kind of hidden in the final score. Turns out the Astros bullpen can't really keep from walking guys. What's completely tragic is that in about a year, Armando Gallaraga has gone from near-perfection (which, still, just fucking ouch) to 0-3 and getting shit-slapped by the worst Cubs team in a good while.
At least the offense was due - Samardzija has been getting Matt Clement-level run support lately - 3.19 for the season when I looked last night.
JacKson - .125/.222/.125
Vitters - .100/.095/.150
