National League 8 - American League 0: SUCK IT, OTHER LEAGUE

"Bienvenidos a la GUN SHOW, Liga de America"

Your esteemed WAIW editors continued their annual tradition of eating too much and taking in the All Star Game. I completely credit our spiritual involvement with the NL's third win in a row. Sitting through the Uggla Debacle of 2008 apparently let us accrue a shitload of karma. In fact, Uggo even had an RBI last night during Justin Verlander's nightmare start. Imagine being Verlander - rising to the top of your position, spending the week hearing people talk about how amazing you've been, then going out and giving up a bases-loaded triple to Pablo Sandoval. It cannot be terribly fun.

Also un-fun? Playing for Tony LaRussa. With the NL leading 8-0 in the top of the 6th, Ol' ShitSack kept Furcal in the game to get his #9 hitter a third at-bat. Thanks a fucking lot for that, Tony. Hope that fly-out was worth it to you.

Speaking of unfortunate hitting results, Cubs players went 0-fer, which seems fitting enough for the year. I made a sarcastic comment about how excited I was for Bryan LaHair's scoop in the 7th, then had to suck it up and admit that Castro's quick play on Andrus's fluky grounder gave me great joy. Frankly, it was nice just seeing them out there. I will admit that this is fully an 8-year-old kid thing to say. I don't care. No matter how shitty Bud Selig tries to make things, I always love seeing Cubs play in the game. Not even a drunkard wearing Transitions (TM) lenses can take that away.
