Still Have A Harden, But Lost Our Wood

Unlike Sammy Sosa, this Cub will be missed

The Cubs today announced that they will make a trade for Kevin Gregg from the Marlins (don't worry - he only tied the NL for blown saves, so it could be worse).  As most of you have heard (hey, we don't claim to break news, just sarcastically recap with an occasional penis joke...ok frequent penis jokes), this means that the Cubs will part ways with Kerry Wood.  I see the logic, as Kerry wanted a 3 or 4 year deal and is worth more than the Cubs can afford.  He has given us the adopted-home team discount before, so you can't blame him.  With his injuries, he needs to get some guaranteed money versus these one year deal.

This being said, we at WAIW will truly miss him.  As far as our team, I don't think it will affect us that much, but as a fan, Kerry was the epitome of what you want a Cub to be.  Active in the Chicago community and willing to do whatever to stay here, he was the anti-John Rocker.  It will be weird to see him in another uniform, but I wish him all the best*.

* Provided he doesn't go to St. Louis (a little Edmonds revenge?), the Brewers (always bitter at us and certainly better option than Gange), or even worst, the White Sox (think about it, he wants to stay in Chicago).  As long as Kerry does not violate any of these unspoken agreements, he will always be cheered for here.

Note:  Poll now moot.

"Poll now moot"

What?!

In my mind, I'm just replacing "think" with "hope" and voting Marquis.

...and replacing "think" with "hope" is what a Cubs fan does on any given day, by the way.

but wolfie - without marquis, who on the starting rotation will we be able to mock? i still am now sure it is acceptable in our culture to use ted lilly's down-syndrome appearance for comical gain.

That's not Down's Syndrome, you ass, that's Teddy putting a hex on the batter.

whoa jj - i said it wasn't acceptable.

Sorry, still angry over the loss of Woody. Feeling very protective of the remaining pitchers we have left.

How long did it take you to come up with this title? It's pretty damn good.

Hey Steve! Nice One Man! Sorry we didn't see that until now.

Frankly though, we're not sure we know what you mean by TL's "down syndrome" appearance... we've always thought Ted looks a lot like Jeff Gordon or the coach from Friday Night Lights.

What we are sure of is this: make fun of Ted at your own peril, the guy has torn the jaw off of a dog.

On top of that...a while back I asked which Cub would kick the most ass in a brawl. Well, I asked a friend of mine who works with the Cubs, and he confirmed: Lilly is a ticking time bomb.

Love it! We wonder if the obvious tension and stress within TL is somewhat caused by having an obsessive interweb fan club that watches his every move.... doubt it
