Braves are the new Hawks?

Sport Highlight...or Viagra Ad?

The Cubs got their first season sweep ever against the Atlanta "Remember when we had David Justice" Braves, and we did it with both Marquis and Lilly pitching in games. Please read that again and pause to reflect on the occasion. Every time I look at the stats, I am amazed at Lilly's win total. He is now 12-6 on the year, and should finish with 15+ easily. Having seen him pitch many times, it should seriously baffle the mind. That being said, I am not going to complain when a starter gets the win, even if it is in the positively mediocre way that Ted does it.

The Stone Cold Stunner did not go as planned.

The offense was non-stop today, even as Lilly dared the Cubs to lose this game. Any time the Braves would put up anything, the Cubs would put up a multiple of it. Soriano and Ramirez both hit homers, accounting for 5 of the runs, which is always impressive against Glavine. Unfortunately, A-Ram (take that wolfie!) got injured in after Quade sent him home on a botched fielding attempt from the Braves. Once it was revealed that he just had a bruised hip, John and I both discussed the pussiness of the A-Ram (sorry Cub Blogging). Either way, he should be alright, so I don't think there is any reason for concern.

Trying to think of a hilarious comment, all I could think of was the "Aliens" arm coming out of the umpires body.

It is good to sweep an NL team that has been so good for so long (even if they are / were 11 / 10 games under .500). First time we have swept them in the course of a season...ever. Now we are on to play the Marlins, who have won 10 straight against us. Also. they beat us in the 2003 NLCS. Assholes.

Oh, you love it, don't you? Twist the knife. You're never gonna let my wounds heal, will ya? Well you know what? I hate you, and I hate this site and I'm never gonna read it again!!!

Ok I lied.

On another note, I'm not sure if you've done this already, but in light of the retaliation plunking from Lilly last night, I'm wondering if you would consider having a public debate about which current Cub would kick most ass in a fight.

Here are my top picks, in reverse order:
3) Malibu Mike: Yeah, definitely a sleeper pick, and it might fly in the face of his even-keeled, dudeness, but I have a feeling he was picked on one too many times as a kid, and learned to do what he had to as a little guy to make a statement. Some may laugh, but I bet Malibu will get scrappy on you in a hurry.
2) Bob Howry: For one, he sucks right now and is less emotionally stable than usual (in my mind, he’s always had a Robert Patrick, T-1000 look about him). My guess is he would either laser-stare a hole through your heart, or just pull a shank out from inside his sock and stick you.
1) Carlos Zambrano: Yikes, hands down.

That sounds like a pretty good poll question. Although we'd have to eliminate Z straight away for fairness. He's got performance-enhancing rage.

I must admit (and I say this with an unfaltering record of Rami admiration) the way he was rolling around home plate I assumed we at the very least had another twisted testicle case on our hands. While I am relieved it's just a bruise on his hip, I do question his manliness. In fact, we had our own discussion at my house along the very same lines.

I'd still do him. (Apparently I'd have to be pretty gentle about it though.)

Wolfie - We just need Farnsworth back. If he was in the game, half the Braves would be on the DL.
