Cubs Win, CC Obese

It's hard to stay thin when your mom is Aunt Jemima

Lilly vs. CC? Fine, Milwaukee, we will concede the first game and take the next three. I mean…how can we stand a chance against the mom in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” Wait…wait a minute?! We won?! We won despite Lilly having a shaky inning, giving up 3 runs in the 6th, including back-to-back jacks? But CC? You are the savior? You have turned the Brewers into the best in the NL. How could this have happened?

Instead of the 7th Inning Stretch, in Milwaukee, Richard Simmons leads the "7th Innin' Sweatin'"

Ok. Introduction laced in sarcasm: over. What a game last night, with the Cubs taking the opening match of the 4 game set. Lilly looked adequate, if not above-average, for most of the night, despite a semi-meltdown, though no mitt-pounding to go with it. He ended up with a “well it could be worse” line of 6.0 innings, 3 runs, and 4 Ks. Unfortunately, Bob Howry was invited to play. He earned his 12th blown save on the year, and I read in the Trib today that his ERA is 12.5 something in the past 6 appearances. And Lou is considering him as a potential closer while Wood is out?! Is this how low our faith in Marmol is? We are resorting to Eric Stoltz in “The Mask” or Bob Howry over him? For his part, he pitched solid enough to only give me one ulcer last night, walking Jason “Moonface” Kendall before Gabe Kapler flew out to Soriano (who thinks the Peter Pan jump shouldn’t be happening, given his track record?).

Cedeno and Fukudome love Jesus

It looks like our offensive may have realized that they aren’t supposed to suck. Good effort all around, with Soriano locking in again, Malibu continuing his string of clutch-ness, and Lee having Reed Johnson to thank for not hitting into a rally-ending double play. I hope that we can keep it going tonight, in what should be an even better battle, with Zambrano and Sheets going at it. If the Cubs get up early, we will be leaving town no worse than 1 game up in 1st.

I hate Brewers fans.
